The hating game online book7/5/2023 Lucy and Joshua are both put up for the promotion that will result in one being the other’s boss. This status quo of hate and frustration continues on until their bosses announce a new job opening in the company. They show their feelings through passive aggressive games they play throughout the day, constantly working to frustrate and intimidate each other. In fact, Lucy and Joshua hate each other and they aren’t shy about saying so. They may have similar jobs, but that doesn’t mean they have to like each other. The two are not friends, to put it nicely. Lucy and Joshua are executive assistants to the co-CEOs of the newly merged publishing company. Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeton find themselves squaring off a daily basis as a direct result of this. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne tells the story of two publishing companies, Gamin Publishing and Bexley Books, that are forced to merge in order to survive, as well as the people affected by this merger. Thorne was mentioned to me by a regular who thought I would enjoy a contemporary romance. Up popped The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. With the recent closure of the Library to patrons, I found myself searching for books that I remembered patrons telling me to read. It centers me, lets me interact more with patrons, and also check the condition of books. Sometimes I am overcome with the urge to walk the shelves and immerse myself in books.

Security by Stephen Amidon7/5/2023 Mary’s plight quickly envelops others, including her classmate, Angela, who is sleeping with her English professor, a guest at the Cutler mansion on the night in question Kathryn, a divorcée who embarks on an affair with an old love whose wife is running for mayor and Conor, Kathryn’s troubled son and the only witness to what really happened to Mary. The police and the locals assume she’s covering for her father, a widower whose heavy drinking has gotten him in trouble with the law before. Later, college student Mary Steckl accuses Cutler of sexually abusing her at his home that evening. Edward Inman runs a security company and one night is called to the mansion of Doyle Cutler, a wealthy client. ) follows, in this skillfully executed if not quite devastating novel, the serpentine events surrounding an alleged sexual assault in a sleepy Massachusetts college town. An Accomplished Woman by Jude Morgan7/5/2023 And so, I worried as I approached this book for a second time. After enjoying Indiscretion so thoroughly, I read two others of Morgan’s books ( An Accomplished Womanand A Little Folly), and, while perfectly fine reads, they lacked that magic that made Indiscretion so much fun. I decided that this would be a perfect vacation book to follow up The Blue Castle. I first read this absolutely delightful book two years ago, and enjoyed it so much that I purchased a copy soon after. Oranges are not7/5/2023 It is the arrangement that is the investment contract! They are offering an opportunity to contribute money and to share in the profits of a large citrus fruit enterprise managed and partly owned by respondents. The respondent companies are offering something more than fee simple interests in land, something different from a farm or orchard coupled with management services. The transactions in this case clearly involve investment contracts, as so defined. In other words, an investment contract, for purposes of the Securities Act, means a contract, transaction or scheme whereby a person invests his money in a common enterprise and is led to expect profits solely from the efforts of the promoter or a third party. The legal issue, in this case, turns upon a determination of whether, under the circumstances, the land sales contract, the warranty deed, and the service contract together constitute an “investment contract” within the meaning of § 2(1). These 3 quotes neatly summarize the case: Nonsense! Let’s take a look at what the Supreme Court actually said. People constantly raise the fact that Howey was originally decided in 1946, as if that means it will have done a bad job setting a test that works today. I implore the plaintiffs’ bar and the SEC to stop the madness and return to Howey.

The idiot book batuman7/4/2023 Published in 2017, “The Idiot” tells the story of a first year college student at Harvard University in 1995. The proportion of books I own to the time I have available to actually read them is extremely unequal, so “The Idiot” gathered dust on my bookshelf until this year’s spring break, when, at last, I decided to open it. Perhaps by chance, I was given this novel for Christmas a year or so ago. I didn’t seek it out, but without fail, that bubblegum pink seemed to find me whenever I entered a bookstore. Slowly, Batuman’s debut novel became a primary protagonist in my life. It started as a supporting character-its title cropping up in articles I had to read for school or in the news. However, the novel began to make more appearances in my life. I didn’t think much of it when I left the bookstore that day without “The Idiot” in hand. It stayed on the shelf, but I recall being struck by the lucidity of its cover: a pale pink background, a simple serif font and the image of a large gray stone. I didn’t pick up the book or read the summary or even consider purchasing it. I was in my hometown bookstore, ambling through the air-conditioned shop on a yellow, lethargic July day in Connecticut. I first glimpsed the cover of “The Idiot” by Elif Batuman nearly two years ago.

Empire of storms book7/4/2023 What this means, of course, is that Aelin is more distant in this book. Her plan keeps the story from becoming exceedingly tedious. Aelin’s trying to gather an army, and as the story progresses, we get to know those she’s trying to make alliances with and those who are her foes. Overall, I think this was an excellent strategy for this book. I bring this story up because most of the book is told from points of view other than Aelin’s, and we get to know those characters, both old and new, more intimately. They hook up, and unexpectedly Lorcan helps her because he wants to find Aelin and Rowan, but Elide’s innocence changes him in unexpected ways. I particularly like the adventures of Lorcan, a fae who is hunting Rowan, and Elide, a new character who is looking for Aelin to join her cause. The book is told from various points of view, and we get to know more about old as well as new characters. If you have been reading the series, expect for Chaol, the old characters return, and lots of new ones show up in this book. It’s also the story of various characters converging toward Aelin to either help her or hinder her. In a nutshell, this book is about Aelin and company trying to gather allies to help her retake her kingdom. I think this memory glitch was because the story has the feel of a slow cobbling together of an army from nothing, and most of the book isn’t fast-paced. Maas back in February and had to go back to review what happened in this book. First, I read Empire of Storms by Sarah J.

The alchemist book7/3/2023 He arose and, taking up his crook, began to awaken the sheep that still slept. He had had the same dream that night as a week ago, and once again he had awakened before it ended. I wanted to sleep a little longer, he thought. It was still dark when he awoke, and, looking up, he could see the stars through the half-destroyed roof. He told himself that he would have to start reading thicker books: they lasted longer and made more comfortable pillows. He swept the floor with his jacket and lay down, using the book he had just finished reading as a pillow. There were no wolves in the region, but once an animal had strayed during the night, and the boy had had to spend the entire next day searching for it. He saw to it that all the sheep entered through the ruined gate, and then laid some planks across it to prevent the flock from wandering away during the night. The roof had fallen in long ago, and an enormous sycamore had grown on the spot where the sacristy had once stood. DUSK WAS FALLING AS the boy arrived with his herd at an abandoned church. |
